I was born in raised in the Kansas City metro, and it’s the place I’m proud to call home. I discovered my love for writing, performing and creating at an early age, but it wasn’t until college that I realized that it was my ideal career.
In 2016, I graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in Overland Park, Kan. where I fit perfectly into the archetypical “theatre kid” mold. It was also during high school that I learned that, at any given time, upwards of 90% of actors are out of work. I knew I needed to find a career that was both feasible and was something that I enjoyed doing.
I stayed put in Kansas City and attended UMKC, where I really fell in love with journalism and media and realized I could make a life for myself in the sector. I will graduate in Spring 2020 with a B.A. in Communication Studies – Journalism and Mass Communications Emphasis.
During my time at UMKC, I served as an editor for the official student newspaper, University News. I oversaw all digital/video content, and I maintained the newspaper’s website and all the social media platforms.
Prior to being an editor, I served as a staff writer and wrote a variety of stories in news, arts, entertainment and editorial sections.
I’ve worked for a local radio conglomerate and a local magazine. These experiences have given me an extremely valuable insight to the workings of Kansas City’s media industry.
I am still learning and striving to be a stronger writer, a more effective communicator and a more visionary creator.
